These are the Section V Athletes of the Week for April 13-19 presented by Faber Builders.
Girls Athlete of the Week
Bles’ng Muhammad received over 16,000 votes. The junior at Aquinas helped the school’s flag football team win three games with three touchdowns. Muhammad returned an interception 22 yards for a score, caught a pass for another and reached the end zone on a 45-yard punt return. She also finished with eight receptions for 141 yards and 30 flag pulls, including three behind the line of scrimmage. One of those pulls for loss of yardage was a sack.
Boys Athlete of the Week
Joshua Yakowitz received over 7,000 votes. The Gates Chili lacrosse player scored six goals to help the Spartans defeat Batavia Notre Dame for their first win of the season.
During the spring season, the polls launched on Mondays at democratandchronicle.com to determine the Athlete of the Week from the previous week’s top performances. Your vote determined who was honored as Section V’s best.
The poll was live until 8 p.m. Wednesday. The winner was announced first on our Instagram page, found at instagram.com/dandcsports.
