Region Lacrosse: Roundup of Treasure Coast boys and girls games

Here’s a roundup of regional boys and girls lacrosse matches involving Treasure Coast-area teams. 

Six local teams earned the right to play past regionals and compete for a state title. Through the first two rounds, only one team is left.

Girls Lacrosse

Region 4-2A Semifinal

No. 3 Vero Beach (10-11) 17, No. 2 Stoneman Douglas (12-6) 3: The fact that the Vero Beach girls lacrosse team is the area’s last team standing generally isn’t a surprise considering the program’s glowing history. Yet, the 2026 squad might be a rare exception.

Vero heads back to the regional title game after throttling the Eagles on Wednesday from Parkland. Stats were unavailable.

With three games left in the regular season, Vero Beach was saddled with a 4-10 record. But under first-year head coach Gabriella McKay, the team has flipped the script, winning 6 of its last 7 games, including its last five in a row.

Since the start of districts, Vero has defeated its opponents from by a combined margin of 69-15.

Vero Beach now stand three wins away from a state title, Immediately standing in its ways is top-seeded St. Thomas Aquinas as the two teams will play at 7 p.m. Saturday in Fort Lauderdale. They battled in last season’s regional final, with Vero coming away with a 7-6 victory.

Region 4-1A Semifinal

No. 1 American Heritage (18-1) 20, No. 4 St. Edward’s (14-5) 2: The Pirates’ successful campaign came to a close after falling on the road to the Stallions. American Heritage enjoyed a 13-0 halftime cushion.

St. Edward’s loss came seven days after the team collected its best win of the season. After suffering a late-minute loss to Benjamin in the District 13-1A title match, the Pirates avenged that loss with a convincing 11-6 result on the road.

The program will graduate five seniors: Caitlin Moscrip, Kelly Lynch, Aerin Russell, Madeline Richards and C.J. Fykes.

Region 4-1A Quarterfinal

No. 2 Pine Crest (14-2) 14, No. 7 Jensen Beach (15-5) 4: Without its best player, the Falcons were eliminated from the postseason by the Panthers on April 22 from Fort Lauderdale.

Jensen Beach did not have the services of Kai Valko. The senior star and South Florida signee suffered a concussion during the team’s district semifinal loss against Benjamin on April 13.

Valko is one of eight Falcons seniors set to graduate, along with Danielle Bell, Erin Gimbal, Bella Tuthill, Karley Brown, Margot Yoder, Mackenzie Brody and Scarlette Dettloff.

Boys Lacrosse

Region 2-2A Semifinal

No. 1 Winter Park (19-1) 14, No. 4 Vero Beach (13-7) 4: Seniors Austin Banzhaf, Tayton Farrow and freshman Henry DiLella each recorded two points during Vero’s road loss on Tuesday to the Wildcats.

Farrow notched two goals while Banzhaf and DiLella each had a goal and an assist. Elsewhere, sophomore Liam Watson and Dominic Foderaro posted four ground balls. Watson had 14 saves in goal while Foderaro won seven face-offs.

After capturing its fifth straight district title, Vero Beach advanced to the regional semifinals following a 9-3 win over Lake Mary last Friday.

Banzhaf and Farrow are two of 16 seniors set to graduate from the program.

No. 1 Benjamin (13-5) 19, No. 4 St. Edward’s (10-8) 7: Less than two weeks after falling to the Buccaneers in the District 8-1A Final, the Pirates struggled in the rematch Tuesday from Palm Beach Gardens.

Stats were unavailable. The game marked the final prep contest for Connor O’Brien. The 2025 Boys Lacrosse Player of the Year is set to graduate as part of a four-player senior class that includes Ivan Kelly, Matt Vatland and Mark Moore.

The week prior, O’Brien was outstanding in his final home game. The senior scored twice and dished out seven assists during St. Edward’s 16-9 quarterfinal win over The First Academy on April 21.
