The Monique Burr Foundation for Children in Jacksonville, which provides personal safety training for children and teens in classrooms and afterschool programs, raised a record $283,000 at its fifth annual A Night in the Vineyard.
The foundation develops prevention programs to educate youth about abuse, bullying, digital dangers and other forms of child victimization. Board chairman Ed Burr created the nonprofit in 1997 as a legacy to his late wife who advocated for children.
“It is incredibly moving to witness our community come together for a shared purpose and mission — to protect children by empowering them with the knowledge and strategies they need to stay safe,” Burr said.
The foundation’s Prevention Education Programs have reached about 22 million students in 42 states and seven countries.
“The risks children face are real, and they are evolving — but so are we,” said Ashley Garrett, vice president of prevention education.
