Marion County moves to locally led domestic violence services

In a April 29 news release, officials announced a transition of domestic violence services between Community Action Stops Abuse and the Marion County Sexual Assault Center.

According to the release, CASA Pinellas branched into the county in January 2024 and assisted in ensuring survivors received “critical, life‑saving services at a time when there was no other local provider positioned to meet the need.” During that time, the release states CASA Pinellas extended its certification to the county.

Officials said MCSAC is ready “to assume leadership of domestic violence services, marking an important step toward a fully localized, collaborative model of care.” Both organizations are working closely together to ensure a seamless transition, with a shared focus on continuity, safety and survivor‑centered support. The effective date is June 30, officials said.

Betsy Weber, the executive director of MCSAC, said in the release “Taking on this role is both a responsibility and an opportunity.” Weber also said “We are committed to building on the foundation established in Marion County while introducing expanded programs and innovative approaches that meet the evolving needs of survivors.”

CASA CEO Lariana Forsythe said “This transition represents exactly what strong communities strive for.” Forsythe adds “CASA stepped in when there was a critical gap, and we are proud to now support a trusted local partner as they take the lead in serving Marion County.”

During the transition, officials said survivors will continue to have uninterrupted access to essential services, including emergency shelter, advocacy and support resources. CASA and MCSAC are coordinating closely with local stakeholders to maintain stability and strengthen the long‑term service network in Marion County.
