Former Iowa women's basketball guard picks transfer portal destination

After announcing her intentions to enter the transfer portal in late March, former Iowa women’s basketball guard Kennise Johnson has committed to play for the Delaware Blue Hens this fall, according to her Instagram.

The 5-foot-4 guard out of Joliet, Ill., signed with the Hawkeyes in the 2023 signing class, but only appeared in 20 career games due to a torn ACL during the 2024-25 season. In those 20 games, she totaled nine points, seven rebounds, six assists, and one steal on 3-of-10 shooting in her Hawkeye career.

This past season, Johnson saw limited time off the bench, serving as a reserve on the back end of the Hawkeyes’ depth chart due to occasional knee soreness, taking her in and out of availability.

While Johnson enters the 2026-27 season as a senior, she could still seek a medical redshirt by the NCAA to grant her an extra year beyond this upcoming campaign.
