The Los Angeles Rams wrapped up the 2026 NFL Draft and while they still have options if they want to add more players, for the most part, their roster is set for the summer. The Rams were aggressive, investing over $200 million into their secondary, while using the draft to plan for the future.
With potential extensions looming, here are four observations from the Rams’ offseason so far.
The Rams felt that they had a championship roster before the draft
You don’t spend the 13th overall pick on a quarterback if you have a pressing need on the roster. While it is a questionable decision not to add another wide receiver in the first round, especially when Davante Adams has wear and tear issues, the team feels their tight end room is well-equipped to take over, should an injury occur to their wide receivers.
It’s clear that the Rams also feel Trent McDuffie and Jaylen Watson addressed all their issues on defense. A little shocking that they’re entering OTAs with only three starting-caliber outside cornerbacks, unless they feel a developmental player is on the verge of a breakthrough.
They have set themselves up for another midseason trade
The Rams only finished with five picks in the draft, as they packaged two late-rounders to move up for CJ Daniels. The team didn’t have a lot of roster spots open anyway, so it was more about quality than quantity. However, by doing this, the Rams did not touch their 2027 draft capital, and outside of the third-round selection used to add McDuffie, the team has the rest to use in a midseason trade.
The Rams did not take big swings in the draft. That’s because they don’t know what holes might reveal themselves. Things change, injuries happen. The Rams have enough to make a midseason trade once again.
Puka Nacua will likely be a Ram for life
There’s no true successor for Davante Adams on the roster, unless the Rams believe in Konata Mumpfield, something that they appear to do. Even so, Mumpfield is still a question mark heading into Year 2. With Matthew Stafford and Ty Simpson in the quarterback room, the Rams need a playmaker now and in the future.
Nacua is set to be a free agent after the season. He also has plans to retire when he’s 30, so expect a record-setting extension this year that expires with enough time for the Rams to hand him a third and final deal.
Emmanuel Forbes’ outlook is in a better place than expected
While I still believe Forbes’ fifth-year option will get declined, he will have the opportunity to prove his worth this season before entering the open market in 2027. Forbes impressed last season, especially against Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
With that being said, I don’t think the market for him will be great next offseason. Forbes is only 25. I could see him signing a mid-range, two-year extension to improve his value before hitting free agency again at 27. Kam Curl did that, coming over from Washington, and now he’s making $12 million a season, compared to the $4.5 million he was making in 2024 and 2025.
