Jaguars UDFA profiles: Why QB Joey Aguilar could make roster push

The Jacksonville Jaguars announced that they signed 18 undrafted free agents following the conclusion of the 2026 NFL draft. Let’s take a closer look at these players and highlight why each could make a potential roster push.

Up first is Tennessee quarterback Joey Aguilar.

What to know about Joey Aguilar

After spending a few years at Appalachian State, Aguilar made the jump to the SEC in 2025. Despite the elevated level of competition, Aguilar’s completion rate increased significantly. He also created more big plays through the air, while throwing 24 touchdowns to 10 interceptions. Following last year’s draft, James Gladstone mentioned how impressed he was that Jalen McLeod made the jump in competition but remained productive.

Here is what Pro Football Network had to say about Aguilar in their pre-draft scouting report:

“Of the late-round and PFA options at QB in the 2026 NFL Draft, Aguilar has one of the strongest arms. He flashes easy layering ability up seams and against 1-on-1 coverage, and he’s tough and composed when threatened with contact. However, when he wasn’t able to isolate 1-on-1s and had to read coverages on the fly, his consistency waned and throws were forced at times. An over-aged project passer with arm talent and toughness to mold, Aguilar is worthy of a camp and QB3 spot, but has an uncertain long-term projection.”

Why could Joey Aguilar make a roster push?

Realistically, it’s difficult to envision Aguilar taking Nick Mullens’ spot as Trevor Lawrence’s backup. Mullens’ experience in the NFL will give him an advantage, and one would think that element is valuable to have in the quarterback room and on the practice field.

That said, Aguilar could certainly push Carter Bradley for the QB3 role. Last season, the Jaguars rostered only two quarterbacks on the 53-man, but perhaps Aguilar’s play could convince Liam Coen to keep three this year.
