Two teams have fallen in the baseball rankings this week and another three have fallen out of the rankings.
Below is a look at the current occupants of top 10 spots.
Note: Records reflect games played through April 26.
1. Iona Prep (10-2) — If we had a magic wand, one of the things we’d create are yearly games between Iona Prep and at least one of Section 1’s traditional baseball powers. Given that the Gaels are atop this week’s rankings — as they were at the end of the 2025 season — the guess is they’d win. But a game or games like that would surely spark much local interest. For now, area high school baseball fans will have to be content with Iona Prep at least playing other local Catholic schools. Last week, two of its three games were against locals in Kennedy and Stepinac. They were both decisive Iona Prep wins. Previously: 1
2. Tappan Zee (13-0) — With 30 runs scored over three games last week, Tappan Zee picked up another three wins. The Dutchmen have four games this week and it’s hard to imagine them dropping their first game of the season if they continue to hit like they have of late. Previously: 2
3. Ketcham (9-1) — Ketcham had four games last week and won four. It destroyed Arlington 13-1 and, while Arlington had been in a small slump, this was still a team that had beaten both Mahopac and Scarsdale. Ketcham has four games this week and could again sweep. Previously: 4
4. Scarsdale (10-2) — The Raiders had been on the outside, looking in, as a rankings bubble team last week. So how have they vaulted to No. 4? The answer is by winning four games last week, including back-to-back over Mamaroneck. Four games are on the Raiders’ schedule this week. These shouldn’t be cakewalks but Scarsdale could sweep — that is if it doesn’t get caught looking ahead. On May 4, it will face its toughest test of the season, visiting Ketcham. Previously: Not ranked
5. Mahopac (7-3) — The Wolf Pac split with Yorktown last week, falling 1-0 before beating the Huskers 12-2. This week, Mahopac has four potentially tough games. It will play Lakeland, which got excellent pitching in splitting with Horace Greeley last week, then Greeley twice and Rye. Previously: 5
6. Horace Greeley (9-2) — The Quakers have four games this week, including two against Mahopac. Baseball may be the most difficult of all sports to predict but if Greeley went 3-1, splitting with Mahopac, that wouldn’t be a shock. Previously: 6
7. Mamaroneck (5-5) — This is arguably Section 1 baseball’s best .500 club. Of course, two early losses were to out-of-area teams, so it’s better than .500 in the section. The Tigers would no doubt like a do-over on last week, when they dropped back-to-back games to Scarsdale, blowing a seventh-inning lead in one of those games. This week it will look to get back on track with games against New Rochelle and Mount Vernon. Previously: 3
8. John Jay-East Fishkill (8-4)— After dropping three straight games, the Patriots last week rebounded with wins over Arlington and Pearl River, both teams with winning records. John Jay has three games this week. Two are against Ketcham. If it can find a way to split the pair, that would strengthen its standing as a top-10 team. Previously: Not ranked
9. Rye (9-4) — After beating Clarkstown North in a close game and again in a blowout last week, Rye dropped two close games to Fox Lane, a team that went to the state Class AA final last year but has largely struggled this season. Go figure. On paper, Rye should win both its games against Suffern and then win against Eastchester this week before facing Mahopac. But, as this season continues to prove, on paper doesn’t mean an automatic W nor an automatic L. Previously: 7
10. Clarkstown South (7-3) — It remains to be seen whether the Vikings will approach, equal or possibly even surpass last year’s 16-6 mark. But as most good teams do, they’ve found a way to adjust to the ouster of long-time and highly successful coach Mike Amendola. Previously: Not ranked
On the bubble: John Jay-Cross River (8-5), Panas (7-6), Pleasantville (10-4), Putnam Valley (8-4).
