Fire crews battling a brush fire near the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library & Museum in Simi Valley April 27 stopped the blaze just shy of 9 acres.
The “Library Fire,” as it was named, started shortly after 1:30 p.m. at 40 Presidential Drive, which leads to the library on a hill on the west side of the city, according to initial fire reports. By 3:30 p.m. the fire was mapped at 8.6 acres, according to Ventura County Fire.
At the height of the firefighting about 70 personnel were on scene, county fire officials said. Crews were expected to stay for several hours to ensure the blaze is completely out and check on any hot spots.
Fire drone operators were still completing their efforts, including thermal views of the terrain.
Firefighters made “an aggressive attack from the ground and the air, including VCFD ‘s Firehawk helicopter,” the agency said on the social media site X. “There were no structures threatened and no evacuation orders issued.”
Fire officials said on the post that staff at the library decided to self evacuate from the building.
No one was injured, and cause of the fire is under investigation, county fire officials said.
