Southern-inspired Meridian-Kessler restaurant to close after 6 years

After six years in SoBro, Root and Bone will soon fry its final piece of fried chicken.

The upscale Southern-inspired restaurant announced on social media on April 27 that its last day of service will be June 7. Root and Bone did not offer a reason for the closure, and the restaurant did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Multiple commercial real estate websites list the 3,658-square-foot restaurant space at 4601 N. College Ave. as available for rent.

“What we’ll remember most isn’t just the food, it’s the people,” Root and Bone’s social media post read. “This community welcomed us, supported us, and made it easy to do what we love: take care of others.”

Root and Bone was originally the project of chef-owners and “Top Chef” alums Janine Booth and Jeff McInnis, who opened the first location of the mini-chain in New York in 2014.

A Miami location followed in 2019, and the brand landed in Indianapolis one year later. Both the New York and Miami locations closed over the last four years. Root and Bone now operates two locations, one in Chesterton, Ind., and one in Hendersonville, N.C.
