Deaconess unveils plans for $150M cancer center in Warrick County

EVANSVILLE – Deaconess has announced plans to build a $150 million cancer center in Warrick County that would offer clinical trials and specialized care the company believes will “transform” treatment in the area.

The hospital system unveiled renderings for the Cinelli Cancer Center via a news release Monday afternoon. Set for Deaconess’ Gateway campus just across the Warrick County line, the center should open sometime in 2028.

“This is a milestone moment,” Deaconess CEO Shawn McCoy is quoted as saying in the release. “We are not just adding services … we are transforming the experience of cancer care, bringing new hope close to home.”

The center would house oncologists across multiple disciplines, as well as expanded spaces for radiation and infusions. There will also be spaces for mental health assistance, a dedicated breast cancer center, and clinical trials, among other offerings.

The 180,000-square-foot space will also offer yoga and other wellness classes, a wig boutique for those losing their hair from chemotherapy, a cafe and “retail space with (a) cancer focus,” a fact sheet states.

The center will employ around 250 people. Deaconess spokesperson Marisa Patwa told the Courier & Press that number will come from a mix of new positions and current employees.

“We expect that number to grow even more after opening,” she said.

The center is named for Al and Sharon Cinelli, whose Cinelli Family Foundation donated $20 million to the construction. Deaconess has raised $35 million for the center thus far.
