Cole Wisniewski helped turn around the Texas Tech football team’s pass defense and is being rewarded, taken in the seventh round of the 2026 NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles with the 244th over pick.
Wisniewski spent five years at North Dakota State before transferring to Texas Tech. He missed the entirety of the 2024 season with a foot injury and the Red Raiders reaped the benefits of having the veteran in the defensive backfield. Wisniewski accumulated 78 tackles, six pass deflections and a pair of forced fumbles at Texas Tech.
Here’s what Wisniewski brings to the table for the Eagles.
What Texas Tech’s Cole Wisniewski brings to the Eagles in 2026 NFL Draft
Wisniewski made All-American status at the FCS level after having eight interceptions during the 2023 season. He didn’t have any other picks in his career, but Wisniewski is a hard-hitting safety and one of the surest tacklers Texas Tech had this season, always finding his way to the ball on any given play.
Cole Wisniewski highlights, strengths, weaknesses at Texas Tech football
Have just one season with any interceptions is a bit perplexing, considering he had eight of them in one year, but sports are weird. He’s 6-foot-4 and 220 pounds but does have the foot injury that sidelined him for a full year. That wasn’t a problem for Wisniewski last year but is something to note.
