It’s 24 hours later than most of the rest of the National Football League, but NFL Draft day is here for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The Jaguars have their first regularly-scheduled selection in the draft in the second round, at No. 56 overall. For the first time in the franchise’s 31-year history, there is no first-round pick, because the Jaguars traded their 2026 first-rounder in 2025 for the right to acquire the Cleveland Browns’ second overall spot and thus to select Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter out of Colorado.

Jacksonville native Carson Beck ready for next step in football journey
A coach’s wont is to spend a few minutes watching the opponent in general and the opponent’s quarterback in particular throw the football during warmups.
Liam Coen was no different on Oct. 7, 2023, before Kentucky faced Georgia.
Then Kentucky’s offensive coordinator, Coen, who just two years later would be a finalist for NFL Coach of the Year after leading the Jacksonville Jaguars to a 13-4 record, was impressed by the Bulldogs’ Carson Beck.
“I was watching him throw the ball and I was like, ‘Dang, that thing is coming off his hand pretty good,’” Coen recalled.
If Coen is impressed, that means most NFL offensive minds should be, too. And they should be.
Beck, 23, may not check all of the preferred boxes like creating plays off-script, but his accuracy, moxie and big-game experience should provide him an opportunity to make a Week 1 roster. –Ryan O’Halloran
