Howell softball's Zoey Overton has massive day at plate vs. Milford

A lot of high school softball players won’t have as much production in one season as Howell sophomore Zoey Overton had in one day on Thursday, April 24.

Overton hit four home runs and drove in 13 runs during the Highlanders’ 15-0, 21-17 sweep of Milford.

Overton was 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs in the first game, but she was just getting warmed up.

She had a massive performance in the nightcap, going 5-for-6 with three home runs, a double, nine RBIs and five runs.

Thursday’s offensive explosion boosted Overton’s numbers to six home runs and 25 RBIs in nine games. She is hitting .576 with a 1.333 slugging percentage.

“She is playing loose, having fun and leading the team on both sides of the ball,” Howell coach Lauren Evans said. “Today alone she made a sliding play in the outfield and threw a runner out trying to leg out a triple from the left field fence.”

In the first game, Leighton Scott homered and drove in three runs. Sophia May drove in three runs. Kate Anderson pitched four shutout innings.

In the second game, Mackenzie Carter was 4-for-5, Kennedy Stone 4-for-6 and Lily Hoag 3-for-4 for the Highlanders (9-1).

Pinckney 12-9, Mason 2-7

Pinckney’s Jade Chelenyak went 4-for-6 with seven RBIs and got the victory pitching five innings in the first game. Natally Pease drove in two runs in the nightcap.

Marshall 13-13, Fowlerville 4-6

Ella Olrich drove in two runs in each game for Fowlerville.

Baseball

Charyl Stockwell 12-11, Whitmore Lake 7-5

Jacob Roberts and Jack Prentice each drove in two runs in the first game, while Ryan Eikey and Dominic Neuenschwander had two RBIs each in the nightcap for Stockwell.

Detroit Catholic Central 6-6, Hartland 1-7

Hartland’s Michael Bernardi went 5-for-5 in the doubleheader split. Carson Perkins drove in two runs in the second game.

The Eagles came away with a victory in the nightcap by getting a groundout with runners on second and third in the final inning.

Marshall 14, Fowlerville 11

Dylan Soli was 4-for-5 for Fowlerville. Erik Helminen, Geoffrey Bickley and Connor Richmond each drove in two runs for the Gladiators.

Girls soccer

Hartland 5, Novi 0

Gracie Kastamo scored two first-half goals for Hartland (7-2-1), which led 3-0 at halftime. Elise L’Esperance, Izzy Armstrong and Emma Storm scored the other goals.

Salem 7, Brighton 2

Nina Cucuz and Maya Bjedov scored for Brighton.

Girls lacrosse

Brighton 12, Grand Rapids Catholic Central 8

Quinn Holdridge had three goals and four assists, as Brighton beat a team that was the state Division 2 champion two years ago and the runner-up last season.

Kelly McKaig and Lauren Simms scored three goals, while Mia Balogh had two for the Bulldogs.

Boys golf

Dexter 160, Pinckney 175, Monroe 177

Pinckney junior Emmett Edin tied for second with a 40 and freshman Ben Karolak tied for fourth with a 41.
