Port Huron will not be moving forward with a reconfiguration plans for Union and Court streets, the city announced in a news release.
“The City had been exploring a plan to convert portions of Court Street and Union Street, currentlyone-way corridors from Military Street to 24th Street, into two-way streets between 7th Street and19th Street,” the news release from Port Huron Engineering Manager Brent Moore and Eric Witter, director of Public Works, stated. “The goal of the proposal was to improve walkability and encourage traffic calming within the neighborhood.”
Though a traffic study reportedly found no ill effects from the idea, community members pushed back, including homeowners and other parties that would be effected, leading the city to cancel the idea.
