The owner of Metropolis Popcorn said that he has decided not to renew the lease on the gourmet popcorn’s Hudson storefront, and will close that location on Sunday, April 26.
However, the Cuyahoga Falls location will remain open, owner Brent VanFossen said in a social media post.
“Our online and food truck sales are growing, and our overall company sales remain strong,” VanFossen stated. “However, Hudson has struggled to return to its pre-covid sales levels. We’ve been using the profits from the higher-performing areas of the company to keep it solvent. It doesn’t make sense to continue operating like that.”
VanFossen said Hudson was “one of the nicest, friendliest communities in Ohio.”
“We will be selling all of our popcorn at discount this Thursday through Sunday as a way of thanking you,” he wrote. “We will continue to serve the area through our Popcorn Trucks, Popcorn Fundraiser and MetropolisOhio.com. And we’d love for you to visit us at our store in the Falls.”
In a response to the Metropolis Popcorn’s post, Hudson Mayor Jeff Anzevino stated that he thanked them for being a part of Hudson “and for collaborating with us during our 225th anniversary back in June of 2024 with your Special Hudson blend.”
The Hudson storefront is at 72 North Main Street #6. Hours are Wednesday and Thursday from noon to 6 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. Call 330-342-0300 for details.
