New York Giants pull back on Kayvon Thibodeaux trade talks

The New York Giants have grown less inclined to deal edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux after completing a major trade that sent nose tackle Dexter Lawrence to the Cincinnati Bengals, reports NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport.

Although the team has fielded inquiries about Thibodeaux in recent months, the landscape shifted following the Lawrence trade. The Giants now view moving the 2022 first-round pick as unlikely, though no possibility has been entirely eliminated.

This development aligns with earlier reporting that showed no active momentum toward a deal.

In March, it was reported that the Giants remained open to the right package but were not eager to part with Thibodeaux, who provides valuable depth on a defensive line already bolstered by Brian Burns and Abdul Carter.

Thibodeaux is under contract for the 2026 season via his fifth-year option, carrying a $14.75 million cap hit. General manager Joe Schoen and head coach John Harbaugh have emphasized that every player carries a price, yet the team appears content to retain its edge talent amid ongoing roster construction and limited salary-cap flexibility.

With no compelling offer materializing and the defensive front needing stability, Thibodeaux is expected to remain in New York for the upcoming season. The Giants can afford patience as they evaluate long-term options.
