Texas A&M’s basketball program is in good hands under now second-year coach Bucky McMillan, who, entering his first full offseason, has already landed three transfer portal commits, led by former Kansas Star guard PJ Haggerty, who averaged nearly 24 points per game last season.
Former Radford guard Lukas Walls and Tennessee transfer forward Cade Phillips provide immediate depth in the back and front courts, while returning talent, including forward Zach Clemence and Jamie Vinson, will compete for starting jobs next fall, but more help is needed to replace star big man Rashaun Agee and the guard depth that got the Aggies through the 2025-2026 season.
Before the portal closes, plenty of talent remains available, including former LSU guard Jalen Reece, who scored 17 points against the Aggies last month and was considered a rising star in the program after averaging 5.8 points and 3.6 assists, while shooting 35% from the field.
Those numbers are expected to improve after his freshman season, and after watching Reece play against the Aggies, his speed and fast-paced style fit perfectly into McMillan’s scheme. According to On3’s Joe Tipton, McMillan is interested in the Florida native, as the Aggie coach reportedly visited Reece this weekend.
Tipton further stated the Missouri coach Dennis Gates will also visit Reece, but given the Aggies’ desperate need for reliable guard depth, I wouldn’t be surprised if Texas A&M comes out on top. Time will tell.
