Local businesses and organizations offer aid amidst flood impacts

Amidst serious flooding impacts across Calumet, Outagamie, Shawano, Waupaca and northern Winnebago counties, local businesses and organizations have stepped up to aid in raising funds or offer support to those impacted by flood damage and displacement.

If you’re looking to donate, support or are seeking aid, here’s a list of businesses and organizations involved in relief efforts. This list will be updated as needed.

Breadsmith of Appleton to donate portion of sales

Breadsmith of Appleton is donating 10% of sales from April 17, the business posted to its Facebook page. Proceeds will be donated to The American Red Cross Northeast Wisconsin Chapter.

“The flooding we’re seeing in New London and Shiocton is devastating,” the post reads.

United Way Fox Cities Community Response Fund

A community response fund went live April 17 through United Way Fox Cities to support families impacted by flooding across the Fox Valley.

According to the page, all funds raised will stay local and aim to support residents in impacted counties. The fund is a partnership between United Way Fox Cities and the Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region.

All donations will be distributed through local nonprofits, churches and community organizations aiding in relief, short-term response, and longer-term recovery in Outagamie, Waupaca, and the Neenah and Menasha area of Winnebago counties. The funds will help with housing and shelter, food, health and well-being and financial assistance.

“Catastrophic flooding in the areas of Shiocton, New London, and also impacting the broader region, has left a wake of destruction,” the donation page reads. “Our hearts go out to all of those affected by this terrible flooding.”

Discounted hotel stays amidst flood displacement

The Foxcities.org website has posted a list of discounted lodging options for displaced residents that’ll update as information comes in.

“Displaced residents seeking shelter from the flooding in communities surrounding the Fox Cities are eligible for discounted rates at participating area hotels,” the page reads. “While local events have limited the number of rooms that are available this weekend, our properties are doing their best to assist those in need.”

In addition to the list, Extended Stay America Appleton is offering a discount and waived pet fees as of April 17 to anyone affected by the flood. An employee confirmed to the Appleton Post-Crescent they will have long-term rates available if extended issues arise.

New London Flood Relief Program

As New London faces severe flooding impacts, the City of New London has asked the New London Area Chamber Foundation to serve as a trusted partner in collecting and distributing relief funds.

“Our community is facing an incredibly difficult moment,” a post from the Chamber’s Facebook page reads. “Many of our residents, businesses, and nonprofit organizations have experienced unexpected hardship and loss.”

According to the Chamber’s website, 100% of all donations will go back into the community to help residents, businesses and nonprofits recover and rebuild.

Further donation details can be found at newlondonchamber.com.
