This 'lively' Newburgh restaurant named the best brunch spot in region

For your next brunch, have a “serene” morning on the Hudson River waterfront at Blu Pointe, according to General Manager Joe Stevens.

Feel the open air and natural light when you walk in with their vaulted ceilings and accordion floor-to-ceiling window doors that open to the water, while enjoying the “lively” mood, Stevens said, provided by their upbeat music.

Blu Pointe, now over a decade old, might have white-tablecloth dining indoors, and think upscale when going for dinner, but brunch is more approachable.

The buffet, providing “all the food you care to enjoy,” according to their website, has just about everything, from a breakfast station with all the staples to a pasta station featuring penne alla vodka and rigatoni pomodoro.

On April 8, we asked you what the mid-Hudson Valley’s best brunch spot was, and Blu Pointe won, getting about 23% of the votes.

For brunch, every Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., “there’s a lot to offer,” Stevens said, priced at $46.95 per adult and $21.95 per child 10 and under.

Even though Blu Pointe got the most votes out of any other restaurant, nearly 51% of voters wrote in their own answers.

It appears everyone has their own local brunch favorite.

Read on to hear from Stevens about why Blu Pointe is the region’s leading brunch spot, but at the end, find the list of the next 10 top-voted brunch restaurants in our poll.

Why does Blu Pointe stand out? ‘The best possible ingredients’

Stevens knows high-quality products are expensive, but he said he’s not willing to cut corners if it’ll reflect on the final product, so he’ll spend the extra dollar to get the fresh seafood and prime and wagyu steaks.

When possible, the restaurant tries to buy from local farms as much as they can, but “things like lobster are coming from Maine,” he continued.

“We focus on the best possible ingredients we can get,” Stevens said.

Blu Pointe is a special-occasion spot for many, as Stevens noted he’s had people travel up to an hour away for the Alaskan king crab legs.

Whether you decide to sit outside at their full-service, hexagon-shaped bar, or inside and get the fine-dining feel, it’s “quintessential Hudson River Valley” dining, Stevens said.

If you like Blu Pointe already, a part of Market Hospitality Group, try their other New York location right next door at Beso Taco Bar, a Baja-themed taqueria.

What to try when you go

For brunch, there’s something for the carnivores, seafood lovers and everyone in between. It’s the kind of brunch where anyone can find something they’ll like.

Have made-to-order items such as a traditional eggs Benedict, omelets and pancakes, get a hot entrée such as pan-roasted chicken or Atlantic salmon, or check out the breakfast nook with a waffle station and fried chicken.

But the stars might just be the carving station, serving up USDA prime rib and roasted ham, and the raw bar with all the classics.

Stevens said, “they always carry Blue Point oysters,” but you might find Beausoleil or Kumamoto oysters too, and anything from clams to tuna tartare and colossal crab cocktail to whole Maine lobster cocktail.

If you want to go à la carte for brunch, Stevens said, try one of their signature seafood towers.

The towers don’t stop at seafood either. Blu Pointe has a mimosa tower, too.

If you’re into savory drinks, Stevens described their “Blu Pointe Signature Bloody Mary,” which comes with a colossal shrimp cocktail in it.
