Texas A&M baseball surges up SEC standings after series win over Texas

After an impressive weekend against No. 2 Texas in the Lone Star Showdown, Texas A&M baseball has surged up the Southeastern Conference standings.

The Aggies are ranked second in the league and overtook the Longhorns, following 9-8 and 11-4 victories in Bryan-College Station on Friday and Saturday. While inclement weather canceled the series finale and the opportunity for Michael Earley’s club to obtain the sweep of Texas, it was an outstanding weekend for the Aggies’ odds to compete for the regular-season conference title and reach the postseason. There is still much baseball left to be played, including series against No. 13 Auburn, No. 17 Mississippi State, No. 20 Florida and No. 25 Ole Miss on the docket.

The Aggies’ successful rise up the conference standings is due in large part to their outstanding performances at the plate. After outscoring Texas 20-12 in the Lone Star Showdown, the Maroon and White rank third in the SEC in team batting average (.317) and home runs (70), while also ranking second in RBI (307).

Texas A&M’s next SEC series comes against LSU at Alex Box Stadium this weekend. Game 1 against the Tigers is slated for 6 p.m. CT on Friday, followed by Game 2 on Saturday at 7 p.m. CT. The series finale is slated for 1 p.m. CT on Sunday. Games 1 and 3 will be broadcast on ESPN, with Game 2 on the SEC Network.
