It is going to be a busy month for the $64.1 million multi-phase Hornell Gateway Corridor Transformation, with construction at the northern end of the project expected to impact travel later in April.
The Steuben County Department of Public Works issued a traffic advisory on Friday, April 10 in cooperation with the New York State Department of Transportation regarding upcoming road work in the town of Hornellsville.
According to DOT, beginning on Monday, April 20, work will take place at the intersection of Route 36 and county Route 66 (Webbs Crossing Road).
The following traffic impacts are expected due to the construction:
The work is anticipated to take approximately five days, with completion expected by the end of day on Monday, April 27, weather permitting.
During this period, motorists are advised to follow the posted detour utilizing state Route 21. Drivers should plan for potential delays, county and state officials said.
Travelers are encouraged to use caution and remain alert while driving through the area.
This advisory is being shared by Steuben County to keep residents informed about construction related to the transformative project, the Public Works Department said.
All construction activities and project management are being conducted by DOT.
Roundabout planned for Route 36-Webbs Crossing Road intersection
State and local officials broke ground Wednesday, March 25 on the $37 million Phase I portion of the project.
Overall, the Route 36 project will stretch for about three miles − from the intersection of Cass Street, Elm Street and Broadway in the City of Hornell at its southern limit to county Road 66 (Webbs Crossing Road) at the northern limit.
Construction plans call for eventually building a roundabout at the Route 36 intersection with Webbs Crossing Road.
Phase 1 is expected to be completed by the fall of 2027.
