A once-popular downtown Sarasota restaurant has returned in a new location with a more fast-casual concept.
El Greco Kitchen & Market, located at 4035 Clark Road in the Expo on Clark plaza at the intersection of Clark and Sawyer roads, is now open. The restaurant is a fast-casual version of El Greco Cafe, which operated in downtown Sarasota at 1592 Main St. in the space now occupied by 1592 Wood Fired Kitchen and Cocktails.
The new El Greco is a venture between Patti Soublis Corcoran, daughter of the original owners George and Paulene Soublis, and her nephew Dimitri Syros of The Breakfast Company, which has locations currently open in Sarasota’s The Landings and Rosemary District, Bradenton’s Twelve Oaks Plaza, and University Town Center. Syros and the team behind The Breakfast Company are also partnering with Syros’ stepfather Troy King to reopen Sarasota’s Hob Nob Drive-In, which operated for 67 years before closing in 2024.
“My grandfather had El Greco downtown for a long time, and after he passed away, we ended up opening The Breakfast Company kind of as a tribute,” Syros said. “But we had this El Greco concept for a long time, wanting to do it, so the timing was just finally right to continue that legacy of Greek food in Sarasota. And the fast-casual, the reason really comes down to the location. We’re in a pretty small location here off Clark, so it really lends itself more toward rapid dining.”
What is on El Greco Kitchen & Market’s menu?
El Greco’s menu offers what it calls “our family recipes made your way,” with build-your-own pitas, bowls and plates. Customers can choose from proteins such as gyro and pork or chicken souvlaki, sauces such as tzatziki or spicy feta, and toppings such as pepperoncini or crispy chickpeas.
The restaurant also offers a variety of salads such as the Famous Greek with El Greco house dressing (which can also be ordered the traditional way, without lettuce) and sides including avgolemono soup. A variety of small plates such as pita and spread, vegetarian dolmades, spanakopita and a mezze platter help round out the menu. The new El Greco also has a market element, featuring imported Greek ingredients such as olive oil or cheese for retail purchase.
El Greco Kitchen & Market is open 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and closed Sunday. For more information, call 941-373-9630 or visit elgrecokitchen.com.
