Florida softball takes its next step toward a Women’s College World Series appearance this weekend against the Texas Tech Red Raiders in the Gainesville Super Regional, starting on Friday morning. If you want to catch the clay diamond action on TV or live stream, we have the details you need to know just below.
The sixth-seeded Gators swept through the Gainesville Regional with a tournament-opening run-rule victory over the Florida A&M Rattlers and a pair of victories — one of the mercy rule variety — over the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. The Orange and Blue is 12-2 all-time when hosting Super Regionals; over the last seven Super Regional appearances, six have gone to three games.
The 11th-seeded Red Raiders took down the Marist Red Foxes and the Ole Miss Rebels twice in the Lubbock Regional, including an epic comeback against the latter after being down eight in the seventh inning with two outs. Tech walked that one off in the bottom of the eighth on a sacrifice fly, becoming the first team since 2000 to come back from an eight-plus run deficit to earn a victory.
Florida and Texas Tech have played just four times — the last time coming 2009 — and the Gators have won all four meetings.
