Sheriff IDs bodies found in submerged vehicle near Montezuma

The Poweshiek County Sheriff’s Office identified two people found dead in a vehicle submerged in a drainage pond near Montezuma on Saturday, April 4.

Sheriff Matt Maschmann said in a news release that his office was informed about 9 a.m. Saturday of a submerged car in a pond just north of Lake Silverado. There were two bodies found in the vehicle and pronounced dead on the scene.

An update from Maschmann on Tuesday, April 7, identified the individuals as Amanda Ray, 30, formerly of Montezuma, and Joshua Carroll, 29, of Montezuma. The relation between the two has not been released.

The Poweshiek County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate. No more information has been released.
