A man was pistol-whipped and carjacked after stopping his vehicle along Highway 395 near Helendale on Easter, officials said.
The crime unfolded just before 8 a.m. Sunday, April 5, at Highway 395 and Shadow Mountain Road, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
“The victim reported he was assaulted and carjacked after he stopped on the side of the road,” agency spokeswoman Amber Hutton said.
The attackers, described only as two men, struck the victim with a gun and fled in his car, officials said.
The stolen vehicle was found a short time later by California Highway Patrol officers after it was involved in a hit-and-run collision, Hutton said.
