Ohio State's Taison Chatman entering transfer portal after three years

Taison Chatman is entering the transfer portal after three seasons at Ohio State.

In 45 games sandwiched around a medical redshirt season, the 6-foot-4, 190-pound Chatman has averaged 3.1 points while shooting 43.8% from the floor and making three starts.

The move ends a tumultuous run for Chatman at Ohio State. The final player to commit in the 2023 class, Chatman was the No. 33 national player and a four-star prospect in the class according to 247Sports.com, but his senior season at Fridley (Minnesota) Totino-Grace was slowed due to injury.

That cost him development time during the summer and fall leading into his freshman year, and Chatman played in only 17 games that season but saw his playing time pick up in the final weeks after Chris Holtmann was fired and replaced by Jake Diebler, who would earn the full-time job by season’s end.

Chatman returned for 2024-25 but suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee cost him the entire season. As a redshirt sophomore, Chatman opened the year as a lightly used substitute but saw his playing time increase as the season progressed.

After scoring 17 points in his first season with the Buckeyes, Chatman had three straight double-digit games starting with a Jan. 26 home win against Penn State, totaling 35 points in those three games after scoring 27 in his first 14 appearances of the season.

He ended the year averaging 4.3 points and 1.2 rebounds while shooting 47.1% (24 for 51) from 3-point range. He did not score in 13:33 of playing time against Iowa in the third round of the Big Ten Tournament, was unable to play the next day against Michigan in a quarterfinal loss and then was scoreless in 5:36 against TCU in the NCAA Tournament.

Chatman has two years of eligibility remaining.
