The Marquette men’s basketball team has another opening on its roster for next season.
Golden Eagles junior guard Tre Norman will enter the NCAA transfer portal, the Journal Sentinel confirmed on March 31. Norman’s agency, Icon Athletes, first announced the plan via On3.com.
The 6-foot-4 guard played in 30 games this season, averaging 2.2 points and 1.4 rebounds per game.
Norman’s impending departure gives the Golden Eagles two open schloarship slots for next season after Zaide Lowery’s mid-season departure. More spots will likely open.
Norman arrived at MU as part of the 2023 recruiting class, a four-star prospect who was hailed for his toughness and leadership ability.
But Norman’s offensive game never developed, with 14-for-78 shooting (17.9%) on 3-pointers over his three seasons with the Golden Eagles, and his playing time was limited.
“It’s not easy at all, for real,” Norman told the Journal Sentinel in February about his sporadic minutes. “There’s a lot of days where my energy’s low. A lot of days when I question myself. A lot of days when I question a lot of stuff.”
The 15-day window for players in the transfer portal to be officially contacted by coaches begins on April 7.
MU head coach Shaka Smart’s biggest needs are frontcourt help and backcourt depth to bolster the Golden Eagles’ talented young guards Nigel James Jr. and Adrien Stevens.
