What is Easter Sunday?
Easter is the central celebration of the Christian faith, marking the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. Christians believe the resurrection occurred on the third day after Jesus was crucified, an event believers see as the fulfillment of biblical prophecy and a symbol of victory over sin and death.
The holiday comes at the conclusion of Holy Week – a period that begins with Palm Sunday and includes Holy Thursday and Good Friday – and is widely recognized as a celebration of hope, renewal and new life
When is Easter?
Easter falls on a different date each year because it is based on the lunar calendar. It is observed on the first Sunday after the first full moon following the spring equinox.
In 2026, Easter Sunday falls on April 5.
