Take your pick from these dogs and cats yearning for a home

Cold Noses, The Florida Times-Union’s weekly pet column, features dogs and cats available for adoption at area government-run animal shelters and information on adoption events.

The Jacksonville Humane Society will bring adoptable dogs and cats from its shelter to an area PetSmart store Saturday, March 28, and Sunday, March 29, to meet potential families. The National Adoption Week event will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Southside PetSmart, 8801 Southside Blvd., in Jacksonville. For more information about the society, go to jaxhumane.org.

Jade is an almost 5-year-old, 57-pound female mixed-breed dog (ID No. 58341133). She is a sweetheart who’s in great health and ready to find her forever home. This lovely girl is all set to be the perfect match for a family.

Mordecai is a 3-year-old male mixed-breed dog (ID No.60059812). He is resilient, playful and fun, in that sweet spot of young and active, ready for adventures, but past the puppy phase. He is feeling great after surgery on both knees.

Eira is a 7-year-old female mixed-breed dog (ID No. A1474517). She is super smart and loves snuggling and Milk Bone treats. She wants a cozy home to call her own. Staff, volunteers and previous fosters called her “wonderful” and a great walking buddy.

Adiva is a 3-year-old, 11-pound female domestic shorthair cat (ID No. A1476712). Her ideal day includes a long nap in a cozy tunnel or hiding spot followed by socializing with human and feline friends and a handful of Temptations treats.

Cassandra is a 4-year-old, 6-pound female domestic shorthair cat (ID No. A0060661969). She is quiet, gentle and reserved. She takes her time getting comfortable, but once she does, her sweet personality shines. She loves to stay close, offering a calm presence.

Bowie is 6-year-old, 75-pound male pit bull terrier (ID No. 82030). He is affectionate, loving and always up for an adventure. He has a big heart and a playful spirit. He gets along with children and other dogs and knows the “sit,” “shake” and “down” commands.

Charger is a 2-year-old, 68-pound male pit bull terrier/Labrador mix dog (ID No. 82019). He is friendly, curious and playful. He has a zest for life, loves to explore and is always ready for a game of fetch or a leisurely walk. He thrives on interaction.
