California is expected to host the most events for “No Kings Day” — a day of mass mobilization across the United States — of any state in the nation, event organizers say.
As of Wednesday, March 25, there were 320 events planned across the Golden State for Saturday, March 28, event organizers said in an email.
The next closest state is Massachusetts, which expects to see 160 events, according to organizers.
The third installment of “No Kings Day” is expected to have a historic turnout, with event organizers expecting more than 3,000 events nationwide, more than the previous two installments.
“This No Kings will be the largest protest in American history,” Ezra Levin, co-executive director of Indivisible, said in a March 18 news release.
What is ‘No Kings Day?’
“No Kings Day” protests are organized by a broad coalition of progressive organizations, labor unions, and activist groups, including Indivisible, the 50501 Movement, and the American Civil Liberties Union.
The events, organizers say, are in response to President Donald Trump and his attempt to “control” the populace.
“With every ICE raid, every escalation abroad, and every abuse of power at home, Americans are rising up in opposition to Trump’s attempt to rule through fear and force,” Levin said. “Each day, Trump crosses a new red line, and more people are deciding they’ve had enough. That is why people across the country are organizing, showing up for their neighbors, and making one thing unmistakably clear: we are done with the corruption, the cruelty, and the authoritarianism.”
In June, more than five million people participated in the first round of protests at 2,100 events, while the October round saw seven million people at 2,700 events, according to organizers.
“The March 28 mobilization is the next step in this growing movement, with organizers anticipating it will be one of the largest single-day nonviolent nationwide protests in U.S. history,” organizers said.
