18-year-old killed in shooting near Mecca Community Park identified

An 18-year-old was killed in a shooting in Mecca on Tuesday, March 24, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies responded at 7:59 p.m. to a report of a shooting in the area of Coahuilla Street and 6th Street, near the Mecca Community Park and the Mecca Community Center. When officers arrived, they found the victim with gunshot wounds. The individual, identified as Thermal resident Anjel Rodriguez, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the sheriff’s office.

No arrests had been made as of Wednesday morning, and the investigation is ongoing.
