Former Chicago Bears safety Jonathan Owens is signing a one-year contract with the Indianapolis Colts, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Owens spent the last two seasons with the Bears, where he appeared in 34 games with five starts. He totaled 60 tackles, one tackle for loss, one interception, two pass breakups, one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries. Owens served as key depth at safety and a valuable special teams contributor.
The Bears’ safety room is going to look completely different during the 2026 season after losing three of their top four safeties, including starters Kevin Byard and Jaquan Brisker. But Chicago did land a top free-agent safety in Coby Bryant from the Seattle Seahawks.
Chicago did re-sign key depth piece Elijah Hicks to a one-year deal, but they’ll be looking for a starting safety in the 2026 NFL Draft. Good thing they’re armed with four picks in the first 89 selections, including two second rounders.
