Lubbockites will be heading to the polls again for the May municipal elections.
Unlike the March primary elections which were for partisan elected positions ahead of the November election, items on the ballot for the May municipal election cycle include races for leadership in municipalities and local school boards.
Here’s a look at what Lubbock-area school districts have school board elections coming up, how to register to vote and when exactly the election is.
When are Lubbock municipal, school board elections in May?
Election day is Tuesday, May 2, 2026, according to the Texas Secretary of State’s website.
Early voting begins Monday, April 20, 2026 and lasts until Tuesday, April 28, 2026.
Should a runoff be needed for any race, it will be held in June.
Who is qualified to register to vote?
According to the Texas Secretary of State, any individual who meets the following requirements can register to vote:
How to register to vote in Texas?
The last day to register to vote is Thursday, April 2, 2026.
To register, you can submit a voter registration application card online from the Texas Secretary of State website to be printed, signed and mailed.
Individuals can also call their local elections office to request a voter registration application be sent to them to be filled out, signed and mailed.
Voter registration applications are also available at many post offices, libraries, Texas Department of Public Safety offices, and Texas Health and Human Services Commission offices throughout the state.

Lubbock ISD May 2026 elections
There will be no LISD election on the May ballot because all candidates in all three races were uncontested, and the Secretary of State certified all three as duly elected.
