Hello A-J readers!
This week brought some interesting topics, from medical cannabis to mental health and several new business openings. Here’s a look into the business news highlights.
One of the week’s new businesses brought Texas Original, a licensed medical cannabis company, to Lubbock. The company opened a pick-up space at 421 Frankford Ave., Suite B, and plans to expand it into a satellite location once it is permitted. That would allow it to operate like a pharmacy, where people can pick up same-day prescriptions.
“We’re just happy to provide better accessibility now,” said Nico Richardson, CEO for Texas Original. “We hope it makes is a little bit easier on our patients that are in Lubbock.”
Richardson told us more about medical cannabis, the process, and how recent state legislation has allowed the uses to expand. Make sure to read the story for full details, including two more cities Texas Original plans to open in.
Several other businesses opened this week or will be opening soon, including:
Layne’s Chicken confirmed that the first location will open during Memorial Day weekend in May.
Oceans Behavioral Hospital, 4202 Princeton St., has expanded services with its Virtual Outpatient Program. This program will allow patients to access structured care while remaining connected to their personal and professional lives, according to a news release.
“Access is one of the most significant challenges in behavioral health care, particularly in a large region like West Texas,” Janne Knight, CEO of Oceans Behavioral Hospital – Lubbock, said in the news release. “Our Virtual Outpatient Program allows us to extend care beyond the walls of the hospital and reach individuals across our communities who may otherwise delay or go without treatment.”
Going into next week, expect to see news on a new coffee shop with a baby-friendly twist and an article that breaks down common misconceptions on Texas oil.
As always, thank you for reading and supporting the A-J.
