The Cleveland Charge, the NBA G League affiliate of the Cavaliers, added another local face to its roster Monday, March 9.
Malaki Branham, a graduate of St. Vincent-St. Mary High School who starred at Ohio State, joins the team after being waived by the Charlotte Hornets last month.
Branham played on Irish state championship teams in 2018 and 2021 and won the Ohio Mr. Basketball Award as a senior. He committed to Ohio State and averaged 13.7 points in his freshman season. He declared for the 2022 NBA draft, and was selected by the San Antonio Spurs with the No. 20 overall pick.
Branham has played in 216 career NBA games, most recently with the Washington Wizards this season, averaging 4.6 points, 1.6 rebounds in 9.8 minutes. He was traded by the Wizards to the Dallas Mavericks, who eventually sent him to the Hornets, who waived him Feb. 9.
