Packers will restructure Aaron Banks’ contract, re-sign Nick Niemann

GREEN BAY – It looks like the Green Bay Packers are working to keep their interior offensive line intact.

With Sean Rhyan expected to sign a contract extension and remain at center, the Packers also are doing a restructure to left guard Aaron Banks’ contract to create cap space, according to ESPN.

Banks has a $7.7 million base salary for 2026 and $9.5 million roster bonus, which the team can prorate. His cap hit was scheduled to be $24.8 million.

The Packers signed the former San Francisco 49ers veteran to a four-year, $77 million deal heading into the 2025 season, but he struggled to find consistency as he battled injuries. Despite the struggles, it appears the Packers will stick with the interior line of Rhyan at center with Banks and Anthony Belton playing the guard spots, moving on from Elgton Jenkins.

Packers to re-sign special-team ace Nick Niemann

In other roster moves, the Packers also agreed to re-sign special-teams ace and linebacker Nick Niemann to a one-year deal, according to Sports Illustrated.

Niemann was scheduled to be on the open market, but will instead be a big piece for new special-teams coordinator Cam Achord and will ensure the Packers have at least five linebackers for new defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon, if the team loses Quay Walker.

Despite missing nine games after suffering a torn pectoral muscle, Niemann produced 10 solo tackles and two assisted tackles across eight games. At the time of his injury, Niemann led the NFL in total special-teams tackles.
