Florida softball received a dose of good news Tuesday morning.
Star two-way player Ava Brown announced that she will attempt to return this season, she announced in a social media post. She suffered a lower body injury in the Gators win over Cal Thursday
The game, played at Cal State Fullerton as part of the Judi Garman Classic, wasn’t broadcast on TV. However radio and social media reports from those who were there indicated that Brown injured herself playing first base.
She was put in an aircast and stretchered off the field.
Brown, of course, did not play in UF’s last four games of the tournament – which saw it go 3-1 and suffer its first loss of the season to UCLA.
Due to her two-way status, Brown might be the most important player on the Gators’ roster. The junior has thrown 28 1/3 innings this season with a 0.49 ERA and 21 strikeouts. At the plate, the Texas native has five home runs and 18 RBIs with a .325 average.
Florida returns home Saturday and opens SEC play vs. Missouri for a three game set.
