Olivia Crock took another step up the podium Feb. 28 while punctuating a record-setting career for the Watkins Memorial girls swim team.
Crock touched in a time of 5 minutes, 2.31 seconds to place fourth in the 500-yard freestyle during the Division I state championships in Canton. She placed sixth in the event as a sophomore and fifth as a junior.
Crock earlier placed seventh in the 200 free (1:52.55). She also joined classmate Ava Dutton and freshmen Avery Bowman and Izzy May on the 400 free relay, which finished 12th (3:37.37) after setting a school record during the preliminaries on Feb. 27, and the 200 medley relay, which finished 14th (1:49.48).
Dutton placed eighth in the 100 butterfly, the highest finish of her decorated career after finishing ninth a year ago, and she also finished 13th in the 100 backstroke (57.28). Bowman finished 16th in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.37) after setting a school record during the preliminaries.
Granville senior Grace Largent placed sixth in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.08) after finishing ninth in the event a year ago. Junior Lily Hyslop finished 12th in the 100 fly (57.38).
Hyslop previously competed in the 200 individual medley (2:12.50) during the preliminaries. Largent and Hyslop also joined senior Lily Kronk and junior Eliana White on the 200 medley relay (1:50.18).

Smith competes at state
Kiersten Smith rolled a high game of 181 and series of 476 at HP Lanes to finish 50th for Heath during the Division II state championships.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Northridge falls to top seed
No. 1 Harvest Prep buried eight 3-pointers to keep No. 3 Northridge at bay, sending the Vikings to a 70-44 defeat in a Division VI district final at Taft Coliseum.
Ava Travis scored 9 of her team-high 17 points in the third quarter as the Vikings (17-8) trailed just 41-30 before the Warriors (20-3) caught fire. Cora Hill added 14 points.
Northridge was playing in its program’s first district final. The Vikings eclipsed their program record for victories in a season of 16 set in 1981.
Heights drops title game
No. 2 Worthington Kilbourne opened the third quarter with an 18-4 burst, sending No. 6 Licking Heights to a 49-25 defeat in a Division II district final at Ohio Dominican.
The Hornets (13-11), who were playing in the program’s first district final, trailed 23-11 at halftime after tying the Wolves (21-4) at 7 during the second quarter.
BOYS WRESTLING
Valley takes runner-up
Four Licking Valley wrestlers went unbeaten to win individual titles and lead the host Panthers to a runner-up team finish during the Division II sectional tournament. All qualifiers advanced to the district tournament at Norwalk.
Brody Miller won once by pin and twice by technical fall at 106 pounds, including 17-0 in the final against Lakewood’s Tucker Osgaard. Joe Curry won twice by pin at 126 before beating Lakewood’s Carson Schehl 10-1 in the final.
Noah Curry won twice by pin at 132 before beating Columbus South’s Jeremiah Thomas 5-3 in the final. Ayden Douglass won all three matches by pin at 138, including against Johnstown’s Gage Herb in the final for the Panthers, who totaled 162 points, trailing just the 246½ for champion Highland.
Lakewood’s Cohen Shinault won once by pin at 113 before beating Bishop Hartley’s Vincent Martiah 4-2 in the final to win the championship.
Osgaard won once by pin at 106, and Schehl won twice at 126 for the Lancers. Herb won twice at 138, and teammate Erik Marohl won twice by pin at 285 before falling to take runner-up for the Johnnies
Valley’s Matthew Greene won once at 120 before falling in the final to take runner-up. Johnstown’s Luke Orsini (132) and Dominic Dolfi (150) each placed third as did Valley’s Phoenix Hayslip (175), and Johnstown’s Logan Daniels placed fourth (144).
Wygle, Angus win titles
Utica’s Conner Wygle and Northridge’s Bridon Angus each went undefeated to win individual titles during the Division III sectional tournament at Ridgedale.
Wygle pinned all three of his opponents at 113 pounds, including Northridge’s Destin Oglesby in the final. Angus won twice by technical fall at 132 before winning by default against Elgin’s Cooper Schlaegel in the final.
Qualifiers advanced to the district tournament at Coshocton.
Utica’s Jack Fletcher went 1-1 to take runner-up at 120, and teammates Grayson Fletcher 2-1 with a technical fall at 126 and Julian Harvey 2-1 with two pins at 138 matched him. Oglesby won twice, including once by pin before falling to Wygle, and Northridge teammate Declan Brannigan went 2-1 with two pins to also take runner-up at 190.
Kam Lowry placed third at 285 and Spencer Orgill fourth at 215 for the Vikings, and Newark Catholic’s Chance King placed fourth at 285.
Five Aces take second
Five Granville wrestlers took runner-up to lead district qualifiers out of the Division II sectional tournament at Jonathan Alder. Qualifiers compete next week at Wilmington.
Henry Geiger won once by technical fall at 113 before falling in the final, and Nash Finley also won once before falling in the final at 120 for Granville. Anthony Bergeron won twice, including once by pin, at 126 before falling in the final as did Luke Sanchez at 165, and Griffin Dunbar won once by pin before falling in the final at 132 for the Blue Aces.
Also losing just once were Granville’s Jayce LeJeune (106), Dane McShane (138) and Gareth Larson (150), who all placed third as did Heath’s Landon Roush (144).
Noble, Mulkey take second
Ryan Noble at 106 pounds and Ryan Mulkey at 190 each took runner-up to lead host Watkins Memorial during the Division I sectional tournament.
Noble was 2-1 with a pin, and Mulkey was 2-1 with two pins to qualify to the district tournament at Hilliard Darby.
WoJo Moore also lost just once, placing third at 285. Gage Robinson (120), Cole Herb (144), Maddox Meade (165) and Louden Murray (215) all took fourth for the Warriors.
Ray, Cahill take third
Two Licking Heights wrestlers placed third during the Division I sectional tournament at Marysville to qualify for the district tournament at Hilliard Darby.
Cooper Ray finished 3-1 with two pins at 106 pounds, and Landen Cahill finished 4-1 with two pins at 132 for the Hornets.
Cayton takes third
Cameron Cayton finished 3-1 with a pin at 106 pounds to place third for host Newark during the Division I sectional tournament.
Cayton qualified to the district tournament at Hilliard Darby.
