Getting ready for tax season usually involves collecting paperwork like W-2s, 1099s and other records documenting income along with deduction records like charitable donations and mortgage interest.
We asked Monroe News readers to vote for the best place in Monroe County to get taxes prepared.
Hayden Tax Service at 15175 S. Dixie Hwy. in Monroe placed first with 25% of the votes.
Owned and operated by Bob Hayden of Monroe Township, the tax preparation service, started in 2005, is open all year.
Hayden is an enrolled agent, a federally authorized tax preparer licensed by the IRS. Last year, he prepared tax returns for 950 clients.
He sees clients by appointment and during tax season will work from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. seven days a week.
He said he was “flabbergasted” to hear his business was voted for the best place in Monroe County to get taxes prepared.
“The most enjoyable part is making sure clients are on the right track for withholdings, so they don’t have any surprises,” Bob Hayden said. “This proves to me I am doing the right thing and giving people good service at a very reasonable price.”
Tying for second place was Integrity Business Services and PC Accounting and Tax Services with 16.67%.
Integrity Business Services is an accounting service located at 141W. Elm St. The Monroe business has accounting services, tax preparation and other business resources.
PC Accounting and Tax Services is located at 859 Monroe St. in Carleton. Started in 1991, the business offers tax planning and preparation, retirement planning and accounting services.
The end of the 2026 tax season for most individual taxpayers is April 15, 2026 but you can file for an extension. Filing an extension will give you an additional six months to Oct. 15, 2026, to submit a complete return.
