A local man was found dead May 1 after a self-extinguished garage fire, according to the Holland Department of Public Safety.
HDPS wrote firefighters and police officers were dispatched around 6:43 a.m. to York Avenue for a male patient in his late 60s that had suffered burn injuries.
By the time responders arrived, however, the man was dead.
The department’s fire marshal is investigating the origin and cause of the fire. Based on available evidence, an accidental cause of smoking cannot be ruled out. All damage was contained to the area of origin.
