After an announced expansion of services for Rochester travelers, discount airline Avelo Airlines is reportedly planning to cut 29% of its flights later this year, according to multiple media outlets.
In a January news release, Avelo Airlines announced it had been “recapitalized” and was “streamlining its network” to prepare the company for growth in the coming years.
As part of these changes, the airline, based in Houston and founded in 2021, removed six Boeing Next-Generation 737-700 aircraft from its fleet, saying it would operate primarily with its Boeing Next-Generation 737-800 aircraft. It also noted customers would see “near-term schedule changes” that would impact “many customer itineraries.”
Those changes seem to be fast approaching, as multiple sites, including Travel and Tour World, reported Friday that the airline confirmed it would cut 3,000 flights from its schedule starting in the second quarter of the year, as compared to the same time last year. It’s unclear which flights may be cut and which will be retained.
Avelo did not immediately respond to requests for comment from the Democrat and Chronicle Friday on its operations and future flight plans.

The airline also plans to open a base in Dallas / McKinney, Texas (TKI) in late 2026.
As a part of the changes that will be made to the airline’s operating network, Avelo plans to close bases in other major cities, including:

What to do if your Avelo flight is canceled
The airline plans to reach out to customers who will be impacted by these changes via email and text. According to their website, the airline recommends that travelers who will be impacted the most seek assistance from Avelo’s Customer Support Center.
