Butler Mayor Wesley Dingus was arraigned Feb. 19 in Mansfield Municipal Court on two misdemeanor charges of voyeurism after a camera captured him twice in a minor’s room smelling her underwear.
Magistrate John D. McCollister set bond at $10,000 or 10% and ordered electronic monitoring and a no contact order with the accuser for Dingus, who is already on bond for an earlier incident last summer in Butler where he struck a suspect fleeing the police.
Dingus, 48, was present for the arraignment wearing jeans and a plaid shirt, standing next to his attorney, James Mayer III. Mayer entered not guilty pleas.
Mayer told the magistrate his client is not a threat to the accuser, as she earlier told deputies in a Richland County Sheriff’s Office report.
The mayor of Butler was arrested Aug. 17, 2025 on a charge of aggravated assault and vehicular assault related to a July 11 incident that gained national attention. A final pretrial was held Feb. 5 in Richland County Common Pleas Court on the matter.
