Rochester man charged with murder in Ogden man’s shooting death

A convicted felon was charged in connection with the shooting death of an Ogden man on Orchard Street in Rochester last spring.

Richard Gollwitzer, 36, of Ogden was shot at least once in the head outside 367 Orchard St. around 8:45 p.m. on May 8, said Capt. Frank Umbrino of the Rochester Police Department. His body was found in a wooded area on the north side of the building and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Since the killing, police determined that it appeared that the homicide “was likely drug related,” Umbrino said.

An indictment charging Terrance Wright, 36, of Rochester with second-degree murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, both felonies, was unsealed Friday afternoon in state Supreme Court. He pleaded not guilty and is being held at the Monroe County Jail without bail, according to jail records.

At the time of the homicide, Wright was out of custody on pending fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property charges, Umbrino said. In October, he was sentenced to 1 to 3 years in state prison for that felony conviction. Wright has been incarcerated at the Otisville Correctional Facility, a medium-security prison for men in Orange County, since October.

He is scheduled to return to state Supreme Court on Feb. 19, according to jail records.
