Elmira felon gets decade in prison for drug and firearm conviction

An Elmira man with a prior felony record will serve more than a decade in prison following his conviction on federal drug and firearm charges.

U.S. District Judge Frank P. Geraci Jr. this week sentenced Albey H. Braster, 44, to 128 months in prison after he was convicted on charges of distribution of five grams or more of methamphetamine, and being a felon in possession of firearms.

On multiple occasions between Dec. 4, 2023, and Jan. 18, 2024, Braster distributed more than 166 grams of methamphetamine, four firearms, and over 100 rounds of ammunition to an undercover investigator with the New York State Police, according to Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert A. Marangola, who prosecuted the case.

Braster, who Marangola indicated has multiple prior felony convictions, was arrested Jan. 18, 2024, after members of the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives Violent Crimes Task Force, New York State Police, and the Elmira Police Department executed a search warrant at his Columbia Street residence.

During the search, officers recovered about 2.4 grams of methamphetamine, and $1,861 in cash, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

As part of his sentence, Braster was also ordered to forfeit the seized currency.
