Oxnard mother charged with murdering her baby
A 30-year-old Oxnard woman suspected of killing her 1-day-old child was charged with murder on Feb. 10, according to authorities.
In addition to suspected murder, she faces an additional charge of assault on a child causing death, according to a Ventura County District Attorney’s Office press release.
The Oxnard Police Department said emergency personnel were called to the 2400 block of East Vineyard Avenue, in a lot near Esplanade Drive, around 11 a.m. Feb. 7. They were responding to the birth of Marisol Flores’ child and complications around his birth, police said in a news release.
Police Sgt. Carey Everhart said that Flores was found at a homeless encampment and a concerned person walking through the area called about the woman and her child.
Police said in the news release that first responders found the infant with no signs of life and soon pronounced the child dead. Flores was later taken to the hospital.
Emergency personnel noted a suspicious injury to the baby and informed officers, according to Oxnard police.
Investigators with the department’s Family Protection and Major Crimes units responded and found additional evidence leading to Flores’ arrest Feb. 8.
Everhart said the cause and manner of the child’s death are pending but the boy’s injuries were consistent blunt-force trauma.
Flores was arrested at the hospital and booked into Ventura County jail on offenses including murder, according to jail records. She is being held on $500,000 bail and is scheduled for continued arraignment in Ventura County Superior Court Feb. 13, court records show.
The baby’s death is the first homicide in Oxnard in 2026.
Santa Paula man sentenced 118 years to life for rape, molestation
A judge has given the sentencing for a Santa Paula man’s rape and child molestation charges that spanned decades, according to authorities.
Martin Herrejon Vieyra, 58, of Santa Paula, received 110 years to life and an additional eight years for the rape and child molestation offenses with multiple victims, according to a Ventura County District Attorney’s Office news release.
He was convicted of eight felony sex-related charges for the abuse of three underage victims Jan. 12 in Ventura County Superior Court.
He was found guilty by jury of six counts of lewd act upon a child, rape by force and foreign object penetration, according to a news release by the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office.
The jury also found several special allegations to be true, including that there were multiple victims, the victims were vulnerable and they were under the age of 14 at the time. Such allegations carry with them the possibility of increased sentencing.
The Santa Paula Police Department began investigating a child molestation case in October 2024 with Vieyra as the suspect, DA’s officials said. The DA’s office also investigated and found additional evidence that led to his arrest.
The investigations found that Vieyra had used a familial relationship to gain access to two victims and molested them over the course of decades.
The first victim was abused between 1996 and 2005, while the other victim was abused from 2012 to 2020, officials said. The second victim disclosed the conduct in 2022.
A third victim came forward in February 2025, after learning of the abuse of the other two, the DA’s office said. She was raped in 1991 when Vieyra had been living in the same household as her family.
The Santa Paula man is scheduled to return to court for sentencing on Feb. 10, DA’s officials said. He faces 110 years to life and an additional 16 years in state prison.
He remains in Ventura County jail without bail, officials said.
