President Donald Trump is launching a website dedicated to providing discounts on medicine.
The White House announced the debut of TrumpRx.gov on Feb. 5, where “patients will be able to access large discounts on many of the most popular and highest-priced medicines in the country, paying prices in line with the lowest paid by other developed nations,” according to a White House news release.
The launch featured drugs made by the first five manufactures that reached pricing deals with the Trump Administration, which include AstraZeneca, Eli Lilly, EMD Serono, Novo Nordisk, and Pfizer.
The medication is available to patients with commercial insurance or who are paying cash, according to the website’s terms and conditions. Patients enrolled in Medicare, Medicaid, or other government-funded healthcare programs are not eligible, the website notes.
Experts say while the Trump Administration could make certain drugs, particularly obesity medications that are not widely covered by insurance, more affordable, many consumers could ultimately pay less for many other medicines over the course of the year if they go through their insurance, according to CNN.
Here’s what to know about the new website.
What is TrumpRx?
TrumpRx is a website that lists discounted drug prices from manufacturers. These drugs can be obtained at participating pharmacies using coupon cards displayed on TrumpRx or directly through manufacturers’ websites, according to TrumpRX.gov.
The medication is available to patients with commercial insurance or who are paying cash, according to the website’s terms and conditions. Patients enrolled in Medicare, Medicaid, or other government-funded healthcare programs are not eligible, the website notes.
Not all drugs are currently available at TrumpRx, “but many more are coming soon.”
TrumpRx list of drugs
So far, the Trump Administration has reached pricing deals with AstraZeneca, Eli Lilly, EMD Serono, Novo Nordisk, and Pfizer.
The website offers weight loss drugs, including Ozempic and Wegovy, in addition to Prempro, a pill providing estrogens and a progestin.
Other medications include Cetrotide, Duavee, Eucrisa, Zepbound, Farxiga, Pristiq, Chantix and more.
According to TrumpRx, medications on the site are anywhere from 33 to more than 93 percent off, though the website cautions visitors to check insurance prices first. “This is an out-of-pocket price. If you have insurance, check your co-pay first—it may be even lower.”
For a full list of drugs, visit the website’s browsing feature.
How does TrumpRx work?
When selecting a medication, the website will generate a coupon, which can be used at local pharmacies on a nationwide basis, with the exception of certain specialty drugs, according to the website. Other drugs are only available at discounted prices through the manufacturer’s website.
