Golden State Warriors jersey history – No. 43 – Mickey Johnson (1983-85)

The Golden State Warriors have had over 600 players don the more than 60 jersey numbers used by their players over the more than 75 years of existence the team has enjoyed in its rich and storied history.

Founded in 1946 during the Basketball Association of America (BAA – a precursor league of the NBA) era, the team has called home the cities of Philadelphia, San Francisco, Oakland, and even San Diego.

To commemorate the players who wore those numbers, Warriors Wire is covering the entire history of jersey numbers and the players who sported them since the founding of the team. For this article, we begin with the fifth of nine players who wore the No. 43 jersey for the Warriors.

That player would be Golden State forward alum Mickey Johnson. After ending his college career at Aurora, Johnson was picked up with the 56th overall selection of the 1974 NBA Draft by the Portland Trail Blazers.

The Chicago, Illinois native played the first five seasons of his pro career with the Chicago Bulls after being dealt to them before the start of his rookie season. He also played for the Indiana Pacers, Milwaukee Bucks, (then) and New Jersey (now, Brooklyn) Nets before he was dealt to the Dubs in 1983.

His stay with the team lasted until he was dealt back to the Nets in 1985. During his time suiting up for the Warriors, Johnson wore only jersey No. 43 and put up 13.8 points, 6.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.1 steals per game.
