Routine food service inspections are vital to protecting a community’s overall health, and the Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Health Agency inspects licensed food services every month.

The health agency publishes the results of its inspections, which can be found online at https://eh.bhsj.org/#/home by clicking on Environmental Health.

There are three main categories of food service establishment violations:

Priority Items: These are the most critical violations and are most likely to cause foodborne illness if not corrected. Examples include issues with employee hygiene, food handling, and temperature control.

Priority Foundation Items: Violations that could lead to a priority violation if not addressed. Examples include a lack of necessary supplies or equipment.

Core Items: These relate to general sanitation, equipment, and facility maintenance.
