Update: The Cardinals officially announced the hiring of Mike LaFleur as their new head coach.
There’s only one head coaching vacancy left after the Las Vegas Raiders landed on Klint Kubiak as their next head coach, a hire that will be made official after the Super Bowl. The Arizona Cardinals are the final team still searching for a new head coach after moving on from Jonathan Gannon this offseason, and two of their top targets have ties to the Los Angeles Rams.
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Cardinals’ finalists “have included” Rams offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur, former Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris and Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver.
It’s unclear when the Cardinals will make a decision but LaFleur has been viewed as the top candidate for a little bit of time now. He was in Arizona meeting with the team for two days last week but left without a deal.
LaFleur had several head coaching interviews around the league but was passed over by each team. The Cardinals will have to decide soon whether they want the offensive-minded LaFleur, or the defensive-oriented Morris and Weaver.
LaFleur joined the Rams as their offensive coordinator in 2023, replacing Liam Coen in that role.
